Craftsmen of Wooden Vessels

Daniel and David Hammond are father and son who reside in rural Powder Springs, Georgia. Daniel is a remodeling contractor by trade, and has worked with wood all his life. David inherited his father's interest in wood in a big way, and now both have embarked on a new business venture together: My Dad & Me, Inc. The new business has just set up shop, equipped with state of the art equipment to work in the old trade of woodturning. Please feel free to browse their website to gain some knowledge of what this new business is about, how the two craftsmen work from log to finished piece of art, as well as view some of their turned artistry.

October 5th, 2007 :: The culmination of one of the greatest moments in David's six year venture into woodturning: The 105 year old American Beech finally goes on display in downtown Acworth, at Gallery 4463. "Ties To Our Past"  was one of many pieces of artwork that drew close to 1,000 people to Gallery 4463 on Friday, the fifth of October. The massive bowl will be in Acworth for the remainder of the month. Follow the linked picture to see some of the four year process that is behind this centerpiece. Please visit Gallery 4463 to see the gallery's hours, and view some of the other artist work.

The shop is undergoing continual organization as David moves towards effieciency in turning, work with hand tools, chairmaking, and numerous other side pursuits. The newest wood to the shop is some green Bradford Pear that is being transformed into two large bowls, and two very pretty vases. The vases will find their place in the gallery inside of this month, but the two bowls will be destined to air dry for the next 12 to 18 months. And one simple but important upgrade; the central vac in David's shop is now functional (he tore it out of his parents house as it was not used) - so, no more dust laying around, right?!
