Here are a few more variations of the "traditional" bowl, as well as new vases. You can contact me through email if you are interested in any of the pieces you see here, at mydadandme@bellsouth.net or further contact information is on the contacts page. Thanks for looking!

“Royal Magnolia” Bowl #18 (Southern Magnolia)

Price: 225.00

The Magnolia is famous for its magnificent white flowers and their sweet aroma. Seldom do we think of the brilliance found within its heartwood. The purple spalting along its grain patterns give a royal lining to the background of yellows and browns. Wasn’t our God creative, not overlooking even the oftentimes hidden details?

“Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.” Luke 12:6, 7b

“Calico” Bowl #69 (Hickory)

Price: 875.00

With a three-beaded rim and hues ranging from deep mahogany to burnished blond, this Hickory bowl reminds me of the calico cat my mother had as a child named Rufus. Rufus was a very special animal, not so much because of his beautiful markings or his affection to his master, but because Rufus goes down in history as the only male cat to ever have kittens! My mom didn’t have the heart to change her name.

“But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.” I Corinthians 8:6

“Radiance” Bowl #38 (Live Oak)

Price: 485.00

This wildly topped, mottled vase is not the result of wood burning, carving, or any other manipulation. It is simply the beauty found in turning a compound curve into the edge of a log, revealing the striking rays in the heart and sapwood, and leaving a small section of the shape of the tree itself in the vase. This log was one of millions buried in debris after Hurricane Gene devastated Florida. Isn’t it neat to see something so smooth, beautiful and unique come out of such destruction and chaos? That’s what our Savior can do for us, for by the washing of the Blood our sinful lives can be made whole and clean!

For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:6-8

“Petrified Wood” Bowl #17 (Hickory)

Price: 475.00

This is not really petrified wood, but it sure appears to be. The unusual greens, browns, reds, and tans make this bowl one of the most unique pieces in our gallery. I have never seen hickory do this before and I don’t know if I will ever see it again. David and I don’t really care if we ever sell this bowl!

David got a hold of this log from a tree surgeon who happened to pull up beside him on Macland Road. David rolled down his window and asked what he was planning to do with the wood, and the man, a Mr. James Thompson, yelled back from his pick-up, “I’m taking it to your house if you want it.”

David, of course, had no idea of the gold mine he would uncover inside that log, but I’m sure God did. As far as Mr. Thompson, he was rewarded with a bowl from David and the satisfaction that he had saved himself a five-dollar charge from the Cobb County Vegetative Waste site.

“ How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them!” Psalm 139:17

“Churchill” Bowl #98 (Elm)

Price: 375.00

Churchill may seem like an odd name for an elm vase, with clean lines and a natural oil finish, but the intricate grain pattern on the side grain view of this piece reminds me of the celebrated V the Prime Minister of England would form with his hand. That small symbol is now an icon of the victory the Allies fought, bled and died for in the Second World War. Indeed, that triumph was one of the costliest in all of history, and will be forgotten by few, but that famous V also reminds me of the victory we have in Jesus Christ; the ultimate, eternal victory that we can all share with our Creator, over our adversary the Devil.

“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:56-57

“Grandma’s Dough Bowl” Bowl #25 (Yellow Poplar)

Price: 325.00

The first thought that comes to most people’s mind when we tell them that we turn wooden bowls is Grandma’s dough bowl. This was our attempt at duplicating that expectation. I can almost taste those biscuits now, saturated with fresh-churned butter, and then drenched in molasses. God could have simply created us without taste buds, or made everything taste the same, but instead He chose to give us these simple pleasures.

“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” Psalm 34:8
